Common Credit Card Processing Errors

Here is a list of error messages you may run into and what they mean:

Invalid Service Code 62 - Indicates the card being used has a restriction on the MCC (Merchant Category Code) set up for the company running the transaction.

Code 19 - Indicates the card type being used is invalid for the service being provided.  The most prominent example is when an HSA card is used for non-medical-related purchases.

Merchant Does Not Support This Card Type Code 57 - Similar to a Code 19 and 62, this indicates the merchant receiving the payment does not accept the card type.  For example, if someone were to try to make a payment using a Visa gift card, it would be declined.

Do Not Honor - Indicates the issuing bank for the card being used will not honor payment for the transaction.  This is a very vague error message that does not have a specific cause.  In this case, the cardholder is advised to contact their issuing bank.

Voice Authentication Error - Indicates your MSP (Merchant Service Provider) requires more information on the transaction and needs you to call them.  If your MSP is Newtek, you can call 800-228-1122.  If not, you’ll need to dial the customer service number provided by your MSP.  When contacting them, be sure to have your merchant ID and payment information ready.  Your Merchant ID is normally located at the bottom of your MSP statement.  If you’re still not sure what this number is, give us a call and we can look it up for you.  After calling your MSP, if you receive a post-authorization #, give us a call and we’ll add the transaction to your reporting.

Payment Card Encryption/Decryption failure - An extremely uncommon error that indicates our encryption/decryption service is inactive.  This should only be seen during an update on our end.

Card Expired - this error means the expiration date has either passed or an invalid expiration date that does not match the credit card has been entered.
