Understanding ACH batch processing is crucial for managing electronic payments effectively. The following information outlines key timelines and statuses in the ACH transaction lifecycle, from submission through processing to final settlement.
ACH (Automated Clearing House) processing involves several stages and timing considerations:
-
Transaction Submission:
- PDCflow accepts ACH transactions throughout the day.
- Transactions are initially marked as WAITING.
-
Pre-Batch Processing (Payliance Only):
- At 4:00 PM MST (6:00 PM EST), Payliance begins packaging transactions into files to be sent to banks at 7:00 PM MST (9:00 PM EST).
- Transactions submitted after this time may not be eligible for same-day voiding.
-
Daily ACH Batch Closing:
- At the merchant's configured batch closing time, ACH statuses are updated to SUBMITTED.
-
ACH Network Processing:
- After a transaction is sent to the ACH network the status changes to ACKNOWLEDGED.
-
Final Status:
- Transactions remain ACKNOWLEDGED until they either RETURN or become FUNDED.
Important Notes
-
- Transactions submitted after a batch closes are included in the next day's batch.
- Don't refund an ACH transaction until it has settled in your account. If you refund too early you might give money back that you never received, if the original ACH transaction fails or returns.
